Luke 1v6-7 Both of them were righteous in the sight of God, observing all the Lord’s commands and decrees blamelessly. 7 But they were childless because Elizabeth was not able to conceive, and they were both very old.
The story is referring to Zachariah ! A man, married but having no children because of his wife’s sterility. The Bible says that they were already old, and were characterised by their righteousness in their service. It is so beautiful and rare to hear this ! Not even their righteousness, but they stayed together, serving God despite their sterility. It is very difficult nowadays, to find a couple who stay righteous despite their sterility. This world has rendered things in such a way that, the best decision a couple can take when they have a challenge, is to separate. We, Christians have made it in such a way that , if God doesn’t answer our prayer on the spot, we better give up.
The service and integrity in Church now depends on your expectations from God !
The only thing that make couples stay together, is the children that unite them.
This is an old couple. They have been sterile for years, and went through all sorts of insults! Yet, it didn’t affect their service.
How did they do, to stay together for so long? At a moment in time, when the love you have for your partner will decrease, if you two are United and really love God, His love will strengthen yours. Your marriage will therefore last longer than you think.
It is difficult to see Christians who serve God wholeheartedly and primarily because they love Him. Zechariah had a righteous walk, while his wife was sterile, he had no heir, people were surely insulting him and even proposing him other women to marry.
Zechariah stayed faithful with his wife and didn’t let his challenges separate him from God !
Then the Bible said that, when he diverted his look from his burdens, and continued serving God, the Lord carried his problem, and gave him a son.
You consecrate so much time for your problems, how will God find a way?
Prayer :
Lord, teach me how to make you have the first place in my life, whether it rains or it snows. I take the decision to serve You, not looking only for what your hand can give me, but first for your Heart.
