Luke 14 v27 And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.

Who is a disciple ?  A true disciple is not just involved but is committed to take up his own cross and follow Jesus to the very end. That is a complete and lasting commitment as described by Dr. Lee, « Live as if Christ died yesterday, rose this morning, and is coming back again tomorrow. »A disciple is one who has been baptized and is willing to take upon him or her the name of the Savior and follow Him. A disciple strives to become as He is by keeping His commandments in mortality, much the same as an apprentice seeks to become like his or her master. In Christianity, disciple is a dedicated follower of Jesus. This term is found in the New Testament only in the Gospels and Acts. In the ancient world, a disciple is a follower or adherent of a teacher. Discipleship is not the same as being a student in the modern sense.

The world follower comes again and again. Nowadays we call ourselves online followers. Firstly, note that you are then the disciple (follower) of all those you ‘’follow” online !  Be careful ! Linguistically, the word for “disciple” in the Greek is mathetes, and, although we translate it “disciple,” it also means learner, student, or follower. This word is most akin to the environment of an internship where an expert apprentices a student toward competency in a trade or skill. This relationship involves head knowledge but focuses upon applying that knowledge to everyday situations of life to equip the learner with wisdom. The hope is that the apprentice in a trade will be the master-teacher of others in years to come.In addition to the linguistic route, we could also answer the question, “What is a disciple ?” by looking at the descriptions of disciples of Jesus found in the New Testament.

One critical thing about a disciple, is his ability to leave everything that hinders him from serve God entirely. What hinders you from really serving God, be a disciple !

Prayer :

Lord I find so many difficulties in leaving ( list what separates you from Him. Be it bad friends, sin, alcohol, bad people around you) but today I take the engagement to surrender it all at your feet, so that I can be free enough to serve You entirely. Amen.
