The reverse of this statement is true also. That is, if you are evil, your children and the children of your children will drink from the cup of the payback for your wickedness.
This is why it is very important to walk in the ways of the Lord as it will protect your future generations.
If you love your children, you must be mindful of the way you live your life here on earth. This also applies to those who aspire to become parents.
Just see how David’s blessing kept Solomon even when he was supposed to face the wrath of God due to his idolatry. Just because of his father, the Lord spared his life and the inheritance of David remained.
